Dr. H.M. Zaraki is a central figure in the S.A.F. Chronicles. As the founder of SkyTeam Aerospace Foundation and one of the creators of Project: Cayro, he transformed Star and Cayro into their augmented forms. He also owns the trucking division where Lyra Acosta works.
Despite appearing in his 50s, Dr. Zaraki is over two millennia old. He stands 6 feet tall with a lean build, black hair streaked with silver, and ancient hazel eyes. In his Draconian form, he becomes a 7-foot tall being with obsidian-black scales and glowing amethyst eyes.
His relationship with his daughter, Star, is strained due to controversial genetic augmentations he performed to save her. Professionally, Dr. Zaraki's groundbreaking work in genetic, neural augmentation, aerospace research, and hydrogen technology aims to create a better thriving world for everyone.
In Dragon Fleet, his strategic mind and leadership shine as he navigates ethical dilemmas, balancing scientific advancements with his cosmic duties as the Master of Death. Mysterious and extremely powerful, Dr. Zaraki's actions and decisions shape the destinies of key characters and the story arc of the S.A.F. Chronicles.

Once known as Cayro Bracton, a recent high school graduate and mechanic at his grandfather's motorcycle shop, he mistakenly thought life was simple. That wasn't the case at all for him. A rather large life-altering wrench—thanks to his wife, Star—was thrown into the mix, flipping his life upside down.
Subjected to experimental augmentations involving lycanthrope DNA and bioengineering, he gains enhanced abilities but faces significant emotional and physical stress. Despite his complex relationship with his father, Cayro is resilient and protective of his loved ones, including Star and his grandparents. His technical skills and quick thinking make him indispensable aboard the SAF Autumn, playing key roles in missions and decision-making.
A skilled skyboarder, Cayro uses this activity as both a recreational outlet and a metaphor for his self-discovery journey. His intelligence and strategic mind are crucial in combat and tactical scenarios. In Dragon Fleet, Cayro demonstrates his leadership and strategic prowess, coordinating logistics and military operations. His interactions with diverse groups, including werewolves and dragons, highlight his ability to inspire and lead.
Now serving the Free States of America as the commander of the 102nd Airborne Division, Cayro’s journey involves understanding his identity, navigating bioengineering ethics, and balancing human and augmented capabilities, driving the emotional depth and moral questioning within the S.A.F. Chronicles.

Scuzball, known begrudgingly as "Scuzball" but formally as the 1337-J2 Artificial Intelligence Operating System, is a digital entity with the personality of a snarky, regal white cat adorned with a black tail. This self-aware AI, created over twenty years ago by Cayro’s father, has the unique ability to transcend digital confines, making him both a nuisance and a savior to those he assists.
Ever the drama queen, Scuzball delights in turning mundane tasks into grandiose productions, complete with sound effects and costumed avatars. Whether it’s donning a hard hat and tool belt to "build" software or adopting an Australian accent to wrangle virtual velociraptors, Scuzball ensures that no interaction is dull.
Scuzball’s primary role involves hacking into secure systems, fixing critical errors, and occasionally tormenting his creators and companions with his antics. He’s been known to play horror films for children as revenge and engage in verbal spars with anyone within earshot, including Dr. Zaraki, whom he affectionately calls "The Windbag".
Despite his playful and often irritating demeanor, Scuzball’s loyalty to Star and Cayro is unwavering. He manages critical operations, like linking neural networks, stabilizing virtual connections, and even initiating combat plans during high-stakes missions. His sharp wit and relentless efficiency make him an indispensable, if infuriating, ally.
In essence, Scuzball is the epitome of a digital cat with the heart of a snarky tech genius, blending his regal attitude with a knack for breaking and mending digital barriers. He’s the bridge between the physical and digital realms, navigating both with an irreverent charm that’s impossible to ignore.
